Many things can bring people together: a favorite song, a favorite TV show, unpopular opinions about Peeps.

And this week, a potato chip eating contest brought Latter-day Saint Johanna Jones and American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie together.

On the latest episode of American Idol, Jones, an In-N-Out Burger cook from Las Vegas, wowed judges with her rendition of Sam Smith's "I'm Not the Only One."

"Johanna Jones, I'm scared for you. . . . The job you have worked so hard for, you will have to quit," Perry said with a wink.

"Your control, your ability to sell it to us, I'm telling you it was mesmerizing. You've got the touch," Richie added.

But while Jones' musical ability impressed the judges, her ritual of eating potato chips before a performance made her an instant favorite of Perry.

"Are you my spirit animal?" Perry asks before reaching under the judging table and pulling out two packages of potato chips. "That is the oldest trick in the book. That's what I used to use that when I was singing in Nashville."

Of course, a potato chip eating contest between Jones and the judges ensued, and while there appeared to be no clear winner, a bond was clearly made amid the chaos.
