S. Kent Brown
- The Fathers It all started with the fathers. As with countless Jewish girls, Mary’s betrothal likely began when, by custom, Joseph’s father approached hers. Before Joseph’s father said more than a few words, Mary’s father likely knew what he wanted. To be brief, he wanted to discuss a possible engagement of his son with Mary. That topic would require a somewhat formal meeting. 1 Whether Joseph’s father was the first parent to approach Mary’s father we cannot know. It is certainly possible that her father had been approached by other fathers of young men in Nazareth. Mary would surely have been...

Video: What Ministering to People with Leprosy Taught Jane Clayson Johnson About Depression
Lindsey Williams
- On a recent trip to India, Jane Clayson Johnson had the opportunity to meet and serve individuals affected by leprosy. In a devotional released Tuesday by BYU-Pathway Worldwide , Johnson shared how the experience taught her more about how the Savior ministers to the afflicted and how that can help people reach out to those who struggle with mental illness, as well as help those with mental illness have the courage to reach out. “Jesus didn’t heal them by avoiding them,” Johnson said. “He waded right into the mess with His help and with His hope.” Through her years of research...
David Butler on How We Have More in Common with Wandering Sheep than We Realize
David Butler, Adapted from "Redeemer: Who He Is and Who He Will Always Be"
- When my oldest boys were little, I took them to an amusement park because I’m such a rocking dad. During lunch, while we were all standing in line for a million-dollar hamburger, I looked down to where my son Jack had been standing right next to me. He wasn’t there. I was sort of bugged to lose my spot in line, but I figured he had wandered back to the rest of our crew who were saving a table, so I left the line to check at the table only to find them Jack-less. No sign of him. I started to...

4 Tips to Help You Focus During the Sacrament
LDS Living Staff
- The following article originally ran on LDS Living in September 2015. When Jesus visited the Americas after His death, He told the people this: "And it shall be a testimony unto the Father that ye do always remember me" (3 Nephi 18:7). But obviously it’s a real struggle to remember Christ as much as He would like. There is, however, one set-aside event where our only goal is to think about Christ and His sacrifice for us: sacrament meeting. Picture the following scene in your mind: The sacrament begins. You bow your head for the prayer and a crick in your neck...
