In spring of 1943, President Boyd K. Packer enlisted in the Army Air Force. A year later, he was ordered to the Pacific Theater and stationed in Japan. He returned home in 1946, a year after the end of the war. 

Later, he would study education and become a teacher and coordinator in the Church Educational System.
