Analysts question if Huntsman is downplaying his religion

Is Jon Huntsman Jr. distancing himself from his faith?

Huntsman, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the current governor of Utah, has risen in recognition among political pundits and news organizations in recent months.

Huntsman was considered to be on the short list for John McCain’s vice-presidential running mate in 2008.

In February, Politico.com, a journalism organization focusing on politics, called Huntsman “the fastest-rising Republican star you have never heard of.”

Most recently, President Obama named Huntsman as the United States’ ambassador to China, an assignment that will be bolstered by his experience as an LDS missionary in Taiwan.
