Apostle visits, establishes first Guam stake

On 10 December, Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles created the Barrigada Guam Stake, the first stake for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Territory of Guam.

A stake is an administrative unit composed of numerous congregations (called wards and branches) within a geographic area (similar to what other faiths might call a diocese).
