BYU announces Y Quarterback Weekend in Sept.

For the first time in school history, all seven All-American quarterbacks — who played for legendary coach LaVell Edwards — are returning to Provo to take part in a fundraiser for the BYU football program.

Y Quarterback Weekend is scheduled for Sept. 3-4, and will feature All-Americans Gifford Nielsen, Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Robbie Bosco, Ty Detmer and Steve Sarkisian. In addition, all former BYU quarterbacks have been invited to take part in the weekend activities.

“Our goal is to raise $1 million to endow scholarships at BYU, starting with the quarterback scholarships,” said Nielsen, who was a first-team All-American quarterback at BYU in 1976. “It’s an opportunity for us, as former student-athletes, to honor coach LaVell Edwards and give back to the university and football program that gave us so much.”
