Church Videos: You Are Never to Blame for a Spouse's Pornography Use + Taking Care of Yourself

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a series of powerful videos about overcoming pornography, supporting loved ones with a pornography problem, and finding healing from pornography or betrayal trauma. We will be highlighting these valuable resources over the ensuing weeks.

As ChurchofJesusChrist.org/addressing-pornography states:

"It’s helpful for us to understand that nothing we could change about ourselves would cause our spouses to stop viewing pornography. After all, the truth is that we’re not the reason they’ve chosen to view it. . . . Our particular set of attributes is not what makes us worthy of our spouses’ love. As children of God, our worth is established and unchanging. God defines our worth, and He has declared that our worth is infinite."

While we are never to blame for a spouse's pornography use, the reality of navigating betrayal trauma, reconnecting with our spouses, processing complex emotions, and finding ways to heal require not only time but patience and self-care. Though it is tempting to turn all of our time and energy into supporting our spouse as they recover, we need to also prioritize our own recovery.
