Church leaders report no threats prior to arson fire destroying LDS meetinghouse

Fire officials have completed their investigation into an arson fire that destroyed a 21-year old meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 11001 Harbour Pointe Boulevard, Mukilteo, Washington. Lynnwood Washington Stake President Jeffrey B. Lee said neither of the Bishops who serve in the two wards (congregations) of a combined 800 members knew of any threats or strange phone calls before the arson fire discovered early Saturday morning about 3:00AM.

Brian McMahan, Mukilteo Assistant Fire Chief said, investigators from Snohomish County, the ATF and the Mukilteo Fire Department spent 11 hours at the scene before determining the fire was deliberately started on the outside of the building, near the back entry. Fire officials have turned the investigation over to the Mukilteo Police Department and the evidence collected at the scene has been sent to the state crime lab for analysis, McMahan said.
