Elder Renlund Offers Three Steps to Experience God's Love

On Tuesday, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, Elder Renlund, testified of God’s love during a BYU devotional address and offered some words of advice for those who feel a lack of spiritual reception in their lives.

He shared of an experience that he went through several years ago when he was required to do advanced medical training on Sundays. He eventually got into a routine that left his spiritual “receptors” to become dull.

Elder Renlund got on his knees and pleaded with God for forgiveness. He felt encouraged to make a plan to change this pattern of behavior and found three tools that helped him.

“This is the three-part prescription for dysfunctional receptors for God’s love: repentance, scripture study, and partaking of the sacrament to have the Holy Ghost with us,” he said. “If we do not address this dysfunction early on, we will end up ‘past feeling’ (1 Nephi 17:54). And that is spiritually fatal.”

Sister Renlund spoke alongside her husband, reiterating the importance of the sacrament and spiritual covenants. She stated that great power comes through the covenant of baptism and the sacramental covenants.

“We can receive the power and encouragement to change as we witness to God, our Father, that we are willing to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ. When we take upon us the name of Jesus Christ, we identify ourselves with Him as His disciple. We link ourselves with His name, with Him.”
