Elder Renlund: "When Life Gets Hard, at What Point Are We Justified to Give Up?"

Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles recently shared a touching experience he had while traveling to Bolivia.

He shared the experience on Facebook with a powerful lesson. He mentioned how he usually has no trouble during his travels, but when he recently went on an assignment to Bolivia, “It seemed everything logistically that could have gone wrong did go wrong.”

He continued, “Should I have assumed that the problems were evidence that I shouldn’t go? Should I think that this was Satan working against me? When life gets hard, at what point are we justified in giving up? I don’t profess to know all the answers to those questions.”

He goes on to bear testimony of God’s perfect love for His children in Bolivia. Although the travel to get there was difficult, Elder Renlund recognized how God directed them and provided miracles. He testified that God knows each of his children in Bolivia and “wants to bless each of them.”

We all go through difficult challenges in life and it’s easy to feel like giving up when these trials arise. Elder Renlund ends his post saying, “Perhaps the lesson is when life is hard and everything seems to be going awry, the most productive response is to pause and take notice who it is that God wants me to learn to love.”
