Thought: “We do not know the precise time of the Second Coming of the Savior, but we do know that we are living in the latter days and are closer to the Second Coming than when the Savior lived his mortal life in the meridian of time. We should resolve to begin a new era of personal obedience to prepare for His return. Mortality is fleeting. We all have much to accomplish in preparation to meet Him.”
—Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin (1917–2008), of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Song: “Now Let Us Rejoice,” Hymn #3
Articles of Faith 1:10: “We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.”
(This would be a good time to teach the family where the Articles of Faith are found in the scriptures, at the conclusion of the Pearl of Great Price.)

- Explain that when Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, many things changed. Instead of being a beautiful garden, the Earth had deserts that were hot and dry. It had weeds and thorns growing among the flowers and trees. Some of the animals began fighting and killing. However, the Earth will eventually be renewed, which means it will return to a paradisiacal state (similar to how it was during Adam and Eve’s time).
- Have family members list types of weeds they can think of, flowers or plants with sharp thorns, and names of animals that fight or hunt other animals for food.
- Have family members draw a picture of what the Earth looks like.
- When Jesus Christ comes again to reign on the Earth, the Earth will be renewed. “Renew” means to make new. Have family members draw a picture of what they think the renewed Earth will look like.
