While Los Angeles firefighters were driving from another fire, they smelled and noticed smoke coming from an LDS chapel in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California. They discovered the blaze around 2 a.m. on March 1, Ash Wednesday, according to CBS Los Angeles.

The flames were coming from a classroom at the back of the building, but luckily the firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from damaging the chapel and other areas of the building.

"The fire was blowing out. There was about zero visibility inside, very hot conditions, and they were able to, fortunately, keep the flames confined, "LAFD Public Information Officer Erik Scott told ABC 7. "Again, if it wasn't for firefighters being able to find this so quickly, work with our friends at the LAPD, this could have been much worse."

Arson investigators and fire officials are working together at the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
