Gilbert begins process for approving new LDS temple

To build the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' temple in Gilbert, the town will have to approve a use permit, zoning change and a general plan amendment.

The church is asking for at least 26 exceptions to Gilbert's land development code, including a change in height requirements and the right to build a six-foot fence along the temple's perimeter.

The temple went before the Gilbert Planning Commission Wednesday night for a study session so the commission could review the proposal and suggest changes.
