We are grateful firefighters were able to put out the fire and save the chapel from further damage.

Firefighters rushed to the scene of a historic LDS chapel in the Greater Avenues area of Salt Lake City Friday morning.

Fire was reported at about 10 a.m. in the 1902 chapel at 185 P St., just south of the Salt Lake City Cemetery. The chapel, currently under renovation, belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 27th East Ward.

“When units arrived, they found smoke issuing from the roof of the structure,” Karl Steadman, Salt Lake Fire Department assistant chief of operations, told Gephardt Daily.
