International students flock to BYU

BYU students are familiar with the phrase, “The world is our campus,” but they are also lucky enough to have the world come to their campus.

BYU is fast becoming a microcosm of the “great American melting pot,” with approximately 1,700 international students representing cultures from almost every continent, the BYU website reports.

It is that diversity which attracts so many students — both local and international — to BYU.

“I wanted to study with LDS students from around the world,” said Purevsuren Sukhbaatar, a senior majoring in elementary education from Mongolia. “I chose BYU because I wanted to learn how to speak and use English correctly and because I heard the professors begin and end their classes with prayers.”
