LDS Pulitzer Prize–winning author Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's son, Nathan Ulrich, went missing in the Bermuda Triangle on Monday.
Nathan Ulrich was piloting a plane with Skylight Group CEO Jennifer Blumin and her two sons as passengers and was en route to Titusville, Florida, when the plane went missing.
The MU-2B plane left Borinquen, Puerto Rico, at about 11 a.m. on Monday, but the Miami Air Traffic Control contacted Coast Guard Seventh District Command Center at 2:10 p.m with a report that they had lost radar and radio contact from the plane, according to aCoast Guard press release.
On Tuesday at around 3:30 p.m., the Coast Guard found a fuel sheen and a debris field 15 miles east of Eleuthera, Bahamas, that were confirmed to be from the MU-2B airplane, according to the press release.
After searching for Nathan Ulrich, Jennifer Blumin, and her sons among the debris, search efforts were suspended the on Thursday.
"This was a swift and significant loss and its impact has reverberated through everyone that participated in the search," said Christopher Eddy, search and rescue mission coordinator, in a press release on Thursday. "Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the families involved."
