Despite Houston heat and humidity, 150 adults and children, dressed in their Sunday best, gathered on a recent Saturday morning in a wooded area in Northeast Houston for groundbreaking ceremonies of the new Summerwood Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The building will also be the new home of the Houston East Stake Center. Construction of the building located on Beltway 8 just west of West Lake Houston Parkway was announced in February of this year.
A stake is a group of eight to 10 congregations known as wards, and Houston East Stake President James Banks said this stake is one of the oldest in the Houston area.
