What began as the desire to create an unforgettable holiday soon turned into a non-profit organization that is gaining national attention.

The parents of three children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Ryan and Lana Weimer, wanted to make their kids' Halloween a special occasion by creating custom costumes their kids could wear with their wheelchairs.

But they didn't stop there.

"That feeling that I had looking at my son and the experience he was having that day, I wanted to be able to share them with other people," Ryan Weimer said in an interview with the Meredith Vieira Show.

So the Weimers made that experience the catalyst to help other children in wheelchairs embrace their "uniqueness and individuality" by launching a non-profit organization, Magic Wheelchair.

According to their website, Magic Wheelchair "turns wheelchairs into the envy of every trick-or-treater" by crafting the "biggest and baddest" custom-made costumes around.

And their efforts have been getting noticed, getting featured by The Huffington Post, MTV, BuzzFeed, and the Associated Press.

Watch the Weimer family as they talk more about their incredible project on the Meredith Vieira Show.
