LDS Democrats Banding Together in New Online Community

Proving that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can be faithful, active members of the church and follow a Democratic platform is one of the goals of the newly organized MormonPress, according to co-founder Chrystal Young-Otterstrom.

According to a launch announcement, MormonPress was created by a group of liberal, progressive and proud Democrat LDS members.

Young-Otterstrom said while a number of liberal LDS bloggers joined forces to start the MormonPress, its purpose is not to push church doctrinal issues like women holding the priesthood. Instead, it is designed to be a forum to discuss political policy and how it fits in the realm of LDS beliefs and perspective.

“I am very proud to be a part of the MormonPress community,” Anselmo said in the group's first press release. “As an LDS blogger for over a decade, it’s exciting to join my voice with others who hold the same passion for politics and religion.”
