Conference Weekend with Deseret Book Artists and Authors

Greg Olsen: Wed., Oct. 2

Greg studied art at Utah State University, although he had been an avid artist from a young age. He has learned his craft from prolific artists across the nation. Greg likes being close to his family, which is why he set up his art studio 37 steps from the back door of their home. 

Del Parson: Thurs., Oct. 3

Del learned to love art through his father, who was also a great art lover. He earned his MFA from BYU and then became a gallery and portrait artist. His paintings of Christ evoke a strong emotional response from viewers, and both his religious and historical paintings have received numerous regional and national awards. 

*Mark Amacher and Jeff Hein will also be visiting the downtown Deseret Book this day from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. All are welcome to come meet thise wonderful artists!

J. Kirk Richards: Fri-Sat., Oct. 4-5

Kirk is becoming increasingly known for his accomplishment as a painter of Judeo-Christian themes. While not all of his paintings are overtly religious, the majority of his themes stem form spiritual ideas. His work is found in private collections across the country.

Ladies' Night--Sandra Rast: Sat., Oct. 5

The love of family, the love of being a mother, and the appreciation of the beauty of the creations of the earth are all embedded in emotion of the subject matter Sandra chooses to paint. In each of her paintings, there is a deep feeling of intimacy of her believes and emotion which she portrays though color and composition. 

Book Signing--Julie Rogers, Jolene Allphin, Andrew Olsen: Mon., Oct. 7

Authors Jolene Allphin and Andrew Olsen will be signing their newly released book, Follow Me To Zion; stories from the Willie Handcart Pioneers.  The book is illustrated by artist, Julie Rogers. Julie started to develop her talents in art at a very young age, growing up in the small town of Goshen, Utah working on a ranch.

183rd Semiannual General Conference

Sat., September 28 at 6:00 p.m., Conference Center

The 183rd Semiannual General Conference of the Church will convene in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City on Saturday and Sunday, October 5–6, 2013. The Saturday general sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.; Sunday sessions will be held at 9:30 a.m., which includes Music and the Spoken Word, and 2:00 p.m. The general priesthood meeting will be held in the Conference Center on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 6:00 p.m.

Treasures of the Collection Exhibit

Saturday and Sunday, October 5–6, 2013, Conference Center

The Church History Library presents Treasures of the Collection, an open house featuring Presidents of the Church. This event will showcase various items from the lives of the church presidents. The open house will be held from September 26 to October 11, 2013.
