A Latter-day Saint missionary from Utah came in contact with an electrical cable that may have caused him to fall to his death earlier this week, according to a statement from church officials.

Elder Brennan Conrad, 18, died Wednesday after falling from the roof of his apartment building, officials from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said in a statement posted in Spanish to the church’s Dominican Republic website on Thursday.

Conrad, who is from Hyde Park, had been serving since August in Dominican Republic Santo Domingo East Mission, church officials said.

Conrad’s mission companion said Conrad went up to the roof with a bucket to look for water, according to a statement.
