Mormons plan to build their first temple in state in Indy

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints plans to build a temple in Indianapolis. The facility would be the Mormons' first temple in Indiana.

Mormon church President Thomas S. Monson announced the plan Saturday for the Indianapolis temple and four others during the opening session of the church's two-day semiannual general conference in Salt Lake City.

A local church leader said Mormons were gratified to hear the announcement.

"It's just a marvelous opportunity because what it really says is members of our church have prepared themselves to work and to serve," said Paul Sinclair, Zionsville, who fills an office known as a stake president.

The church has not released any details on a prospective Indianapolis site.
