Preparing a Talk

1. Begin early: As soon as I am given an assignment or topic, I like to begin preparing right away. This includes praying to be led to scriptures and general conference talks that fit the theme. I ponder my topic throughout my normal daily activities so that I am open to inspiration when it comes. I study and pray to know what is most important to present.

2. Remove obstacles to the Spirit: In order to have and keep the Spirit with me, I evaluate what media I’m allowing into my life. If there is anything that might slightly block the Spirit from helping me to be an instrument for Heavenly Father, I eliminate it. This doesn’t mean the media is necessarily bad, but it may take my mind and thoughts in needless directions.
