It isn't easy being an LDS composer in Utah.
Melissa Pack realized this as she tried to get her compositions noticed. The Provo resident was going to start a website for her music -- something many composers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were doing. Her husband, Roger, a computer programmer, suggested a broader vision. Instead of just publishing her sheet music online for free, the couple set out to include other LDS composers. The website, they thought, could be a hub for LDS composers to share their work and get wider recognition.
That was three years ago. Now the website, freeldssheetmusic.org, features 75 composers, has garnered over 3 million page views and attracts more than 3,000 visitors every week.
