Additional education expands career possibilities no matter what phase you’re at in your life. For Marlene Lingren, taking the Medical Coding program at LDS Business College has helped her identify what’s important to her in her career.
“I feel really lucky coming here,” Marlene said. “I did check out other programs elsewhere and I thought, ‘This looks complicated.’ If I do it online, there’s really no one I could talk to if I had questions.”
Marlene knew that she wanted to get more education after spending four years at BYU. After talking with a friend who works at LDS Business College, she knew it was the right fit for her.
“I love learning,” Marlene said. “I told my friend who works here, ‘I would just love to take a class at LDS Business College just to get back into the swing of things.’ My friend then pushed me to check out Medical Coding. It intrigued me to see that after seven months you could get started in a completely different career.”
The Medical Coding program at LDS Business College recently underwent changes at the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester. Instead of requiring 45 credits and two years to complete, the new certificate takes just 28 credits and two semesters to finish.
“The first couple of weeks were a little overwhelming, but I caught on pretty quickly and I love this program,” Marlene said. “I’m excited for the future of it.”
Having real-world professionals teach her courses was the icing on the cake for Marlene.
“I’m really impressed with the quality of teachers here at LDS Business College,” Marlene said. “They have that real-world experience students really seek. There are teachers from all walks of the medical profession, and they really bring things to life. I feel comfortable asking questions. Somehow, they’re able to make a complicated subject in homework become real, and I really like that.”
