Successful LDS Comedian Says Being Mormon Brings Unique Perspective to Standup

He grew up in Utah, so Bengt Washburn says he wasn’t exposed to the sometimes raunchy comedy of George Carlin, Richard Pryor and “Saturday Night Live.”

“I wanted to do comedy when I was real young but I was under the impression that you couldn’t do standup comedy and really be a Mormon,” Washburn said in a telephone interview this week from his Washington, D.C., home.

The comedian performs shows Thursday through Saturday at Belushi’s Comedy Bar in Fort Myers, above Tilted Kilt restaurant and bar.
