There's one thing that would make the family history conference, RootsTech, a little sweeter—Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro.

The 2017 conference hosted by FamilySearch International will feature Valastro as both a keynote speaker and a judge in a first-ever cake competition.

Valastro, owner of Carlo's Bakery and star of the family-friendly TLC show Cake Boss, is also an author, sharing recipes and memories of his family.

And the future keynote speaker knows just how important family can be.

At only 17 years old, the fourth-generation baker from Hoboken, New Jersey, became the owner of his family's business when his father passed away.

During his address, the celebrity chef will share how his vibrant family ties and family traditions shaped not only his career but his life.

But, of course, there will also be plenty of the sweet treats Valastro knows so well, cake.

During the conference, Valastro will judge a cake competition divided into four categories—wedding, birthday, holiday and graduation.

There will be three finalists and one grand prize winner in each category. To top it all off, cakes will also be displayed at the Family Discovery Day of the conference on Feb. 11 where a "People's Choice" winner will be awarded in each category.

The RootsTech conference will be held Feb. 8-11, 2017 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.
