If you want an example of inspiration at work in the church, look no further than the decision to build an LDS temple in tempestuous Tijuana, Mexico. If anyone needs a beaming beacon on hope, it's the good souls on the Mexican border. But more than that, the plan to build a temple there shows a courageous commitment by the church to take gospel blessings to those who need them most. Like Las Vegas, Tijuana has suffered over the years from a one-sided image. Say Tijuana and people think "tacky," "tawdry" and "promiscuous." And those elements can be found. But so can salt-of-the-earth souls whose spirits have been burnished by adversity. I've been there enough to know.
