Today in sacrament meeting I read hymn #273 “Truth Reflects Upon Our Senses,” by our feminist heroine and foremother Eliza R Snow. Along with being a gifted poet and force to be reckoned with, she is also a formidable theologian, and responsible for some of the most profound gospel teachings we have. This hymn touches me because it is the story of repentance. It is written in the first person, and instead of offering a testimony like “I believe in Christ” or “I know that my Redeemer lives,” it offers a confession.
