Thousands of Mormons to participate in Houston-area service day

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have planned their most expansive day of service ever held in the Houston area, part of a worldwide effort to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Mormon church’s welfare program.

On Saturday, 17 local groups of congregations, called stakes, will gather to collect donations for the poor and perform service projects, many in partnership with other faith groups and organizations.
