Today in Church history: Pres. Hinckley born 100 years ago

One hundred years ago today, June 23, 1910, the 15th president of the Church, President Gordon Bitner Hinckley was born to Bryant S. and Ada Bitner Hinckley in Salt Lake City, Utah. The late prophet was a man of wit and wisdom, and left a rich legacy of dedicated service to all in the Church. President Hinckley died Jan. 27, 2008, at the age of 97.

President Hinckley was first set apart and ordained as the President of the Church on March 12, 1995, after serving for 14 years as a counselor to three Church presidents, 20 years as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve and three years as an Assistant to the Twelve. On Nov. 2, 2006, he became the longest-lived president of the Church.
