What We’re Missing About Women In The Scriptures

One of the most sacred of subjects in the scriptures is women of faith. It’s easy to see that there aren’t as many examples of faithful women in the scriptures as are there are of faithful men. That is definitely not to say there have been more faithful men than faithful women throughout history. We might take for granted how many women there are in the scriptures and in church history who can help us understand how to be a faithful follower of Christ.

In Sunday School lessons and in Family Home Evening lessons we may be more inclined to talk about the famous examples of faithful women. Eve, Sarah, Esther, and Ruth are well known. It is a blessing to make a specific effort to find and remember examples of faithful women in the scriptures. There are so many you’ll find when you look for them, but if you aren’t looking you will miss them.

In the Old Testament, Abraham’s son, Isaac, needed a wife. Abraham told his servant to go to an area where Abraham knew there were faithful members of the church and from them to find a wife for Isaac.  The servant did what a good faithful person should do: he prayed.

And before I had done speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder.” (Genesis 24:45)
