Great Ideas for Your Weekend
Home Vacations

With a little imagination, the backyard or local area around you can turn into a nice weekend vacation spot- without the packing, long lines of airports and large budget. Every weekend is not a convenient time to take a trip somewhere, so why not try out some of these ideas right near your own neighborhood.

Take the kids on a picnic- Whether you are pretending to go to the mountains or an enchanted forest, having lunch outside, rather than the everyday inside seating, will mix things up for you and your children. Pack some of your favorite foods in a cooler, basket or bag and head to the backyard or park. Bring some books to read, or just relax in the sun and fun of summer.

Take a hike- Feeling a little more adventurous? Find an exciting spot like a playground, trail, forest or even a new subdivision, and explore new surroundings. Identify new plants or bugs and enjoy the time away from home. The children will like the adventure and learn new things too!

Water Day- Find the local pool, beach, lake or even sprinkler and have a day in the water. Slather on the sunscreen and find relaxation as the children play- and use some of their never-ending energy! You could even try some fishing.

In the house- Take a vacation away from the everyday house, while still being inside. Try a themed day, like Hawaiian, backwards, or Circus Day. Put up decorations and dress differently, like for example, where your clothes backwards and eat dessert first on backwards day. The change of pace will bring fun home.

Forts and Fun- Without transforming the entire house, you can allow the children to get away from the routine, by building a fort or get-a-way. Inside, use pillows, chairs and blankets- or outside, try branches, and old blankets. Spend the afternoon in a faraway land, right near home or try a night under the stars in your new fort.

No need to leave the comforts of your area, just get into the vacation mindset, and take a vacation- at home!
