Gospel Questions & Answers:

Question:

"In the twenty-eighth chapter of First Samuel, the story is related how Saul king of Israel, after the Prophet Samuel died, sought out the witch of Endor to have her 'bring up Samuel,' after that prophet had died, so that he, Saul, could seek advice of him. Now what I have wondered is this: How was it possible for a witch to be able to have power to bring back the spirit of a prophet of God? I know that the devil has great power, but how could he have such power over a prophet of God such as this story seems to indicate? I will be very happy for your help in solving this problem."

DID YOU KNOW... facts about Church History
Did you know that on this day in 1817 Richard Ballantyne, the founder of the LDS Sunday School Program was born in Scotland.

Ballantyne organized the Sunday School Program, formerly known as the Deseret Sunday School Union, 154 years ago on December 8th, 1849. On the first day of Sunday School, 29 children gathered for instruction in Ballantyne's home on the corner of 100 West and 300 South in Salt Lake City.

The following year the expanding Sunday School was moved to a newly constructed meetinghouse in the area, and other congregations in the valley soon started Sunday Schools of their own. Today the Church's Sunday School program serves more than 8 million adolescent and adult members throughout the world.

Quote of the day:
On Knowledge...

"Knowledge comes through personal effort. Its acquisition involves labor. Exact and definite knowledge comes to us in exact ratio with the amount of diligence, moral courage, and perseverance we put into the active search for it." >>
