DID YOU KNOW... facts about Church History
Did you know that on this day in 1850 Congress approved an act creating the territory of Utah? The Saints arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in July 1847, only a few months prior to the transfer of the Utah area and much more of the American Southwest from Mexico to the United States.

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed on February 2, 1848, finalizing the deal. A petition to the United States for statehood was given in 1849, but was not granted. Instead, Utah Territory was created as part of the national Compromise of 1850. The compromise admitted California into the Union as a free state and designated Utah and New Mexico as territories with the right to decide whether or not to permit slavery.

Quote of the day:
On Home...

"Encourage good music and art and literature in your homes.Homes that have a spirit of refinement and beauty will bless the lives of your children forever." >>
Ezra Taft Benson
