It has been my understanding that vicarious work is for the dead, such as baptism, endowment, etc., for nonmembers of the Church who have passed in death. . . ."" Click for answer DID YOU KNOW... facts about Church History Did you know that on this day in 1978 President Spencer W. Kimball addressed the first closed-circuit meeting for women ages twelve and older in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. The meeting was broadcast via satellit to meetinghouses throughout the world, as are general priesthood meetings.The Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle was built between 1864 and 1867 on the west center-line axis of the temple. Truman O. Angell fixed the buildings acoustics as he was responsible for the addition of the present gallery (built in 1870) that earned the Tabernacle its international reputation as a nearly acoustically perfect building. The dome rests on forty-four sandstone piers and a sandstone foundation. Its overall seating capacity is 8,000, which includes the gallery and the choir area. The original organ was made by Joseph H. Ridges and contained 700 pipes. That number has since been increased to 11,000. The Tabernacle is the long-time home of the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
