Jan. 7th: EFY Registration
EFY registration is coming soon! The application process will begin for EFY 2004 on January 7 @ 8:00am Mountain Time. Please visit byu.edu/efy for information on how and when to apply. The theme this year is Stand in the Light, and we are excited for another fantastic year of EFY.

Jan. 7th: SLC, UT
At
7:30pm the Temple Square - Utah Youth Symphony a 150-member Utah Youth Symphony, under the direction of Barbara Scowcroft, will perform in the Tabernacle: Samson and Delilah Bacchanale Op. 47, Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso (with violinist Ralph Matson), and Symphony No. 3 “Organ,”, all by Saint-Saens. The Utah Youth Symphony is composed of outstanding high school-age and college-age musicians. Scowcroft, of the University of Utah violin faculty, is well known in Utah music circles.

In addition, the Temple Square Concert Series features performances every Friday and Saturday at 7:30 P.M. No charge for admission, but limited to those 8 years of age and older. For more information, call 1-801-240-3323.

The new Tacoma Chapter of the BYU Managment Society will begin activities in 2004. The first lucheon (open for all interested business and profession persons living or working in the South Sound area) will be January 9th, 2004 at the Tacoma Club. Fri. Jan. 9th: American Fork, Utah
Ed Pinegar, along with his wife Pat will speak on "Relationships--with God, Our Savior and Others" from 7:30-9:00 P.M. at the Family Lecture Series presented by American Heritage School in American Fork located at 736 N. 1100 E. American Heritage is a private non-profit school for Kindergarten through eighth grade as well as a family resource center. The lecture is free and offered to the public as a service to the community.

Temple Square Performances presents the Utah State High School Men's and Women's Honor Choirs in concert at the Tabernacle at 7:30pm.

Sat. Jan. 31st: SLC, UT
Temple Square Performances presents an "Evening in Vienna" with the Salt Lake Symphony in the Tabernacle at 7:30pm.

Fri. and Sat. March 26-27th 2004: Costa Mesa, CA

The Tabernacle Choir will be performing at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. Please call the Performing Arts box office at (949) 553-2422 for reservations.

Open Hearings Sought in Smart Case
News organizations are opposing a judge's decision to close the mental competency hearings of the couple accused of kidnapping Elizabeth Smart.

Third District Judge Judith Atherton will hold a hearing Monday on petitions asking her to reverse her decision to have the hearings, set for later this month, closed.

"Technology has made it possible for us to offer free courses.Our free courses are our regular courses, but we can use the technology to offer those free to an audience that is not requiring credit," said Dwight Laws, director of Independent Study.
