Gospel Questions & Answers:

Question:

"In our class we were discussing the statement made by the Prophet Joseph Smith: 'And I also beheld that all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability, are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven.' (D.H.C. 2:381.)

"Some of those present thought it did not seem logical that all children no matter what their race or creed would be saved in the celestial kingdom, while their parents would not be able to obtain celestial glory. They cited the case of a Negro baby for an example. We will appreciate any light on this subject."

DID YOU KNOW... facts about Church History

Did you know that in January of 1971new Church magazines—Ensign, New Era, and Friend—commenced publication? Since 1971 the full title of the official monthly magazine for the English-speaking adult members of the Church is The Ensign of THE CHURCH of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. It replaced the Improvement Era, Instructor, and the Relief Society Magazine in serving members of the Church eighteen years and older.

Established in 1971 during a period of consolidation of all Church magazines, the New Era is published monthly. In its earliest days, it was addressed to readers twelve to twenty-six years old (to include single college students), but after four years its scope was reduced to twelve- to eighteen-year-olds to coincide with the age levels of the Aaronic Priesthood and young women programs.

Published monthly since January 1971 for children to age twelve, the Friend replaced the children's friend, which was published from 1902 through 1970.

A young mother asked her four-year-old daughter Cassidy, 'What would you do if someone you didn't know told you he lost his puppy and wanted you to help find it?' Without blinking an eye she said, 'I would go and help him, Mama.' The mother's stomach turned and tears rolled down her cheeks. She was certain she had failed at parenting. As parents, we assume our children know how to respond in certain situations, but this isn't always the case. What Would You Do If . . . is a reader-friendly book that parents and children can read together. Different scenarios are presented on various topics from walking home from school to being approached by strangers. You can then discuss the situation with you children, ensuring that they will know what to do if...
