Discovering Lehi This work may be the most remarkable evidence currently available that Lehi and Nephi actually existed and may be the only research to date to actually pinpoint Book of Mormon geographic locations with any degree of accuracy. Here within our very grasp may be the first physical and historical evidence that Lehi and Nephi, lived, breathed, struggled and taught the gospel as marvelous and influential prophets of The Book of Mormon. "Having Fun Together as a Family" Preparation:• Have pens and paper ready for every family member • Think of an experience where you had fun and enjoyed being with your family Hymn: “Families can be Together Forever,” (Hymns, 300) Scripture: Psalms 133:1 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” Lesson: Ask your family how they think you can achieve family unity. (Answers might include family prayer and scripture study, eating dinner together, attending church together, etc.). Tell them they’ve come up with great answers but that they’re missing a very important one: having fun together! If someone does mention it, ask them what made them think of the answer and why they feel it is important to building family unity. Our homes should be places where laughter is heard often and smiles exchanged daily. No matter how varied our ages and abilities within the family, we should find ways to relax and have fun together. Read the following story: It was a gorgeous October day. My husband Art and I were down at the boat landing helping our friend Don drag his skiff up on the beach. Art remarked wistfully that it would be a long time before next summer, when we could all start sailing again. “You folks ought to take up skiing like our family and have fun the year round,” Don said. “Doesn’t that get pretty expensive?” I asked. Don straightened up and smiled. “It’s funny,” he said. “We live in an old-fashioned house. … For years we’ve been saving up to have the bathroom done over. But every winter we take the money out of the bank and go on a couple of family skiing trips. Our oldest boy is in the army now, and he often mentions in his letters what a great time we had on those trips. You know, I can’t imagine his writing home, ‘Boy, we really have a swell bathroom, haven’t we?’” Share an experience where you enjoyed being with the family and had fun with them. Tell them how grateful you are to have had that time together and how it strengthened your relationship to each of them. Ask each family member to share as well. Discuss and make a list of the types of activities your family members enjoy. As each family member’s suggestions are considered, he or she will feel important. Activities should be the type in which everyone can participate. Here are some ideas if you get stuck: • Go sledding, ice skating or skiing • Create a family restaurant for a night and invite relatives and friends over to eat • Go to a local games center and have a ping pong or air hockey tournament • Have a story night where everyone reads their favorite story to the family • Have a picnic either indoors or outdoors • Put on fun music and everyone dance • Have a photo scavenger hunt (give every child a disposable camera and a list of items to take a picture of around the house or outside in a certain amount of time) • Visit a museum • Go bowling • Make a family time capsule >> CLICK HERE for the Entire FHE Lesson Need a hymn book? >> Click here
