"Walls" ![]() Hymn: "Sweet Hour of Prayer" (Hymn 142) Scriptures: Proverbs 1:10; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 1 Nephi 15:24; Doctrine and Covenants 87:8 Materials: • A Candy Bar Presentation: Begin by telling the students you are going to give a candy bar to whoever can bend over and pick it up. But there are some rules: they must keep their legs straight and not bend their knees and they must also bend down straight forward. Explain that you want them all to practice before you choose a few to try for the candy bar. Have them stand and bend over to touch the floor. Most will be able to, which will bolster their hopes of receiveing the candy bar. Now pick four or five students to come to the front. This time have them stand against the wall with their heels touching the baseboard. Inform them that the candy bar is theirs if they can pick it up without bending their knees or falling forward. They must remain standing. (No one will be able to do it because the wall prevents them from bending all the way down.) Application: Describe how some things are easy to do when the situation is right. But when the situation is altered, the task becomes more difficult. Ask what the wall represents? (Temptation) What are some of the walls you are facing in life? How can you overcome them? Allow the students to draw as many conclusions as they can from their won experiences.
