Better Than You Think You Are

This book offers that needed boost, acknowledging that we all face weighty responsibilities that seem overwhelming at times. We all have doubts and fears. Drawing on Christ's love for us, we can remove the dark clouds that challenge our confidence, even in adversity. Writes bestselling author Ardeth Kapp, "With the Lord's help we are always far, far better than we can be by ourselves."

Daily Thought. . .

"I do not believe members of this church can be in full harmony with the Savior without sustaining his living prophet on the earth, the President of the Church. If we do not sustain the living prophet, whoever he may be, we die spiritually."

Health Tip

by Melanie Douglass, R.D., CPT, author Losing It!: 5 Keys to Successful Weight Loss That Work

Since the statistics clearly show that the majority of us are overweight, too inactive, and too skimpy on healthful food choices, I have concluded that we all shares a similar burden: barriers. Let’s start with barriers to exercise. Realistically, we can get adequate exercise at any time and any place. The key is to find something you enjoy—because if you don’t enjoy it, you won’t stick with it. There are pros and cons to every exercise environment; however, the next few pages provide tips for success in any environment

Working Out at Home

Don’t feel obligated to go to a gym; working out at home is a great place to start—and finish! Your home is convenient, private, flexible, affordable, and time saving. You don’t have to sit in traffic or make an appointment, and you don’t have to find a babysitter. In fact, working out at home will teach your kids healthy habits too.

Here are few basic tips for a successful home workout program:
  • Reveille, Reveille, Reveille. I can’t emphasis this enough. Let’s face it: If you plan your workout for later in the day, it won’t happen. Too many distractions will pop up, and pretty soon you’ll be sitting in front of the TV with a quart of ice cream, thinking, “Oh well, I missed my workout today, but I will work out tomorrow.” (I know,  because I have done this myself.) But seriously, if you think you’re not a morning person because you can’t get to bed early, just go to bed late and get up early for about a week. At that point, going to bed thirty minutes earlier will be much easier.

  • Invest in some good equipment. Of course, you can work out at home without spending a dime. But for optimal results, it is best to have access to some home exercise equipment.
