Church to Launch New Web Site

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be launching a new-look Newsroom Web site this coming week. The present site, developed a year or so before the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, contains feature and reference material written in part for the hundreds of journalists who then flocked to Salt Lake City looking for human interest stories.

Groundbreaking Held for Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple

SALT LAKE CITY — President Gordon B. Hinckley, leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, presided today at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple. His counselors in the First Presidency, President Thomas S. Monson and President James E. Faust, also participated. Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles conducted the service.

Giving Is Central to the Gospel

At Christmastime and throughout the year, giving is central to the gospel. McClain Bybee, managing director of LDS Philanthropies, writes a few words on the blessings of giving. He believes that expressing charity by helping to bear one another's burdens fulfills a baptismal covenant, and that in demonstrating charity we jointly keep the two great commandments (see Matthew 22: 37-40). To have charity is to love Christ and to love others as He does. "Love one another; as I have loved you," the Savior commanded (John 13:34).

Yule performers stay flexible

When performers take the stage tonight at the Conference Center for their final Christmas Concert dress rehearsal, it will be only the second chance the program's young dancers have had to match their routines to the live music of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square.
