Great Ideas for FHE
Try this one tonight!

"I Will Use Clean Language"

Song:
"Reverence is Love," Children's Songbook, p. 31.

Gospel Standard:
I will use the names of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ reverently. I will not swear or use crude words..
(Faith in God guidebooks, backcover)

Quote:

"Do angels take the Lord's name in vain? The idea is so ridiculous that we scarcely like to ask the question. . . . How dare we do that which angels dare not do? Is it possible for us to argue that which is forbidden in heaven is praiseworthy on earth?"

(George Q. Cannon)

Lesson:

Ask your family if they can think of a time when they heard someone make fun of their name or the name of another person. Talk about how it might feel to have your name mocked or ridiculed. Read D&C 63:59-63 together as a family. Ask:

· What did the Lord say about those who misuse His name?

· What are some examples of how a person might misuse the name of the Lord?

Share your feelings about the importance of the Savior's name and why we should take His name upon us. Encourage family members to always respect the Lord so they can remain free from condemnation.

(Dennis H. Leavitt and Richard O. Christensen, Scripture for Latter-day Saint Families: The Doctrine and Covenants, [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 2004], p. 131.)

Activity:

Play "Hum Your Favorite Hymn." Let each person take a turn humming a favorite hymn or Primary song. The other family members try to guess what son they are humming. Teach your family that singing or humming hymns are a good way to replace bad thoughts or words with good ones.

Refreshment:

Hootenanny Pancakes

½ cup margarine or butter
9 eggs
1 ½ cups milk
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ cups flour

Cut butter or margarine into pieces and place in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Place dish and butter in hot oven (375 degrees). While butter or margarine is melting, combine in a separate bowl the eggs, milk, salt, and flour. Beat until smooth. Pour mixture immediately into hot baking pan with the melted butter. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Serve with fresh fruit, hot syrup, or jam. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
