Family Home Evening Idea
Great Ideas for FHE for July 25th, 2005

"Pinpoint the Solution"

Hymn: "Our Savior's Love"
(Hymn 113)

Scriptures: 1 Kings 19:12; Mark 4:24; 1 Nephi 17:45; Doctrine and Covenants 85:6; 101:16

Materials:
A small sewing needle or a pin

Presentation:
Tell the students that you want to conduct a little experiment. You are going to drop a pin on the desk and would like everyone to be quiet so they can all hear it. Drop the pin and have all the students who heard it raise their hands. Repeat the experiment until each has a chance to hear the pin drop.

Application:
This experiment can be compared to how one can hear the whisperings of the still small voice. Ask why the Spirit is often described in this way. Why do they think it is also described at the same time as being something that pierces to the center and causes your heart to burn? Explain that the Spirit whispers so that only those who are listening can hear it. Do your daily surroundings make it easier or more difficult to hear the Spirit of the Lord?

Quote:
"The Lord gives to many of us the still, small voice of revelation. It comes as vividly and strongly as though it were with a great sound. It comes to each man according to his needs and faithfulness, for guidance in matters that pertain to his own life. . . . This certain knowledge which we have that the guiding influence of the Lord may be felt in all the ways of life, according to our needs and faithfulness, is among the greatest blessings God grants unto men. With this blessing comes the responsibility to render strict obedience to the 'still small voice.'"
(IE, Dec. 1938, p. 712.)
