The Woodruff Hotel is located across the street from the Nauvoo Temple and right in the Downtown Historic District. The accommodations are upscale with views of the Nauvoo Temple from most rooms. The hotel was built in 1871 and is a landmark in Nauvoo. Guests can enjoy strolling right out the lobby and into the middle of history. The Woodruff Hotel is moderately priced for such upscale rooms. The Zions Mercantile Hotel is one of only two hotels that actually overlooks the Nauvoo Temple. This hotel has suites instead of typical hotel rooms. There are two large suites with actual walk out balconies that have stunning full views of the Nauvoo Temple, which is right across the street. This hotel has a great restaurant on the main floor and is part of the Historic Downtown District of Nauvoo. You will also enjoy its gift shop called Zions Mercantile. The Willard Richards Inn is named for the Prophet Joseph Smith's personal secretary who lived in this Mansion home. The house was actually owned by Joseph & Emma Smith until Emma sold it in Dec 1847. The accommodations are exquisite, thus the limit on children. (Must be over 8 yrs old to stay) Decorated in old Nauvoo elegance this Inn, which offers breakfast for guests, is not located in Nauvoo's Historic Downtown district, but instead is in the old historic homes district. The only accommodations allowed in that area, the Inn is a remarkable trip back in history. The price is a little more for these rooms, (only five available) but well worth the historic experience. The Hotel Nauvoo is a remarkable historic icon of Nauvoo that is also located right in the Historic Downtown District. This hotel has a limited number classic rooms that have been serving guests since the mid 1800's. The hotel also offers a large dinner buffet, Perfect for those staying in any of the three downtown hotels. For more information call: 217-453-2211.
When visiting Nauvoo, most people really enjoy staying in the historic downtown or historic homes district. The hotels in this area are limited to the ones listed above. When staying in these hotels you can enjoy walking around the temple at night, great small shops, and a treat at the Nauvoo fudge factory.
