A proposal for a Mormon temple in north Phoenix cleared one more hurdle this week and has one more before construction can begin.


The City Council is scheduled to hear the case of the controversial Phoenix temple at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Orpheum Theatre, 203 W. Adams St. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wants to add 10 feet of height to its proposed temple at 5104 W. Pinnacle Peak Road.


The council will take up the debate following unanimous approval Tuesday by the Phoenix Planning Commission. More than 1,000 people filled the auditorium at Central High School. The Deer Valley Village Planning Committee gave its approval in October.
