Neighborhood protests Mormon temple

A Phoenix neighborhood is taking its feud against a proposed Mormon temple to the streets because they are unhappy about the church's design.

The feud has gone on for more than a year.

Neighbors said even some Mormons are nervous about the size of the temple.

The temple would be built in a bedroom community where the same neighbors have lived for decades, just off Pinnacle Peak Road.

Northeastern valley residents enjoy the view of the mountains. But they are worried the quiet place they call home will be disrupted, along with the view.

Every other place that has been accepting of a Mormon Temple sees their real estate values rise. New people build even larger and more beautiful houses than are already there. I also know that the Church will find another other to bring properity to if the folks in this area do not want the temple there. Check out the Denver Temple story.

I am always amazed at the comments made by the protestors that this is not a religious issue merely a neighborhood issue. Just down the street is a water park that dwarfs the planned temple and within a 2 mile radius are two church complexes that are much larger than the LDS temple and adjacent chapel; both of which drawing large crowds and heavy traffic for activities and holiday displays.

lesliejean mentioned a water park which, from my experience, is very disruptive to the surrounding area. Temples are beautiful, quiet, and unobtrusive. These protestors obviously do not understand the quiet reverence people have when visiting a temple. What is this really about?

They could always build the Temple in the city of Surprise. It has plenty of room that people's view of the surrounding mountains won't be distorted! I drive by the city of Surprise all the time and they have tons of room! It is a shame that people are making a big stink about the tiny Temple going in. They just don't want a bunch of Mormon's around because the truth is....they would see the darkness of the iniquities (not saying all are bad people) around those that let the light of the Spirit shine for everyone to see.

Build it anyway! These people are just discriminating. If the church has been cleared to build it, who cares what they think and build it. Satan will do anything he can to thwart the work of God.

When we moved into our home we pulled out some trees that had been planted that would obstruct our view. So I totally understand the view issue. However, the temple will increase property values, and WILL BE A GORGEOUS BUILDING TO LOOK AT! So build it anyway and I know eventually the people will come to enjoy what they fought for so long.

interesting how many do not KNOW nor UNDERSTAND how blessed each area is to receive a temple. Sad so many are overtaken by Satan's whisperings without really understanding. The church temple committee are doing their best with in reason to work with the city. remember the last area that protested a temple ? there were storms ! remember to keep the calm, set a wonderful example and all will work for the good

As one person has already said if a porno shop or another place for them to get drunk comes to town they accept it willingly because of the eveil life they live. If they think God is going to let them in I got news for them. Satan will let them in cause their part way in already.
