MISSION VIEJO – Over plates of saffron-stained lamb shanks and couscous packed with raisins and chunks of sweet potato, area Muslims and Mormons broke fast on Thursday night.Muslims worldwide are in the midst of Ramadan, the month where going without food or water from sunrise to sunset strengthens one's relationship, and subservience, to God, said Imam Yassir Fazaga, leader of the Orange County Islamic Foundation in Mission Viejo.
Fazaga, the leader of the mosque, and his congregants hosted the Mormons at the city's Muslim center to share iftar, the breaking of the fast, as a way to connect not through doctrine but through respect of spirituality.
