Why Fox fired Glenn Beck

April 13, 2011
source: Deseret News

Photo from Deseret News.
You've heard that Fox News fired Glenn Beck, right? You heard that Fox couldn't manage him anymore. You read that network president Roger Ailes canned him to stem the rush of advertisers fleeing his program. You saw on the evening news that his program has been shedding viewers so fast Beck can hardly stop crying.

Those headlines and news leads have been repeated so often it’s safe to assume they’re all true. Even Beck’s kids must think their old man got a pink slip.

Except that he didn’t.

The grossly misleading headlines are typical of competing networks and talking heads that prefer a controversial story about sinking ships to the truth. Of course they’re rooting for Fox and Beck’s collective failures; that’s the game plan in a highly competitive marketplace.

The story may not be true but it should be, Glen Beck is a circus clown that drops tears like a bucket of confetti. He spits out innuendos like they wear Gospel and calls you comme if you don't agree with him. be glad he's going.

Hoosierex.... You're way off base with your comments, there is no reason to even make a post like that. So you don't like him? Fine keep your negativity to yourself. He is not my favorite either but he is dead on and we need more people like him fighting to preserve the constitution.

Glen Beck is one of the few from the main stream media that says it like it is. I agree that more of us need to wake up and re-read the constitution so that we know what is going on around us.

Nice. By saying, "The story may not be true but it should be," you reveal that (at least here,) you're more interested in partisanship than in the truth. Beck's critics seem to be all in favor of the First Amendment, until they hear something they don't like.

You're really not embarrassed that Glen Beck is LDS? I shudder to think that anyone would think that because I am LDS, I agree with any of his outrageous oratory.

Firehole...I am willing to listen to anybody have their say, but the bottom line is that it is Harry Reid I am mortified about!

Angelfood, I totally agree with you -- especially about Harry Reid! I may not always agree with everything Glenn Beck says, but I have to accept that he's more often RIGHT than wrong. More often than not what he says makes a world of sense and I wonder why someone else hasn't said it before now. I admire his courage to say what he believes and to tell the truth. I've listened to him for two years and so far haven't found him telling a lie in any case. We need more people like him who are willing to tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may. God bless him!!!

I totally agree with you dottie. If everyone listened to Beck and did what he says we should be doing the world wouldn't be spinning out of control. The American people would wake up and smell the coffee before it is too late. The reason people don't like him is totally because they don't want to be told they are wrong or that they need to change or they need to be more aware of what is happening around them. I say we need the government leaders in the US to step down and let some people like Glen who really DOES love this country and really does know something take over. He sure couldn't make a bigger mess than what Americans are in now.

I'm proud Glenn Beck is LDS. I wish I had known this sooner. We face troubling times ahead, I am glad Glenn woke us up to more of those issues than we otherwise would have been. And Harry Reid, what can I say? Better not to say anything.

I am glad to be LDS, but sad by the way everything has been politicized- we are told to support our government and its laws, yet the condemnation placed upon faithful Latter Day Saints whose politic views differ from one another, is about the farthest from the dictates of our church. Harry Reid and Glenn Beck are both strong, faithful members of the church, I have read that Harry Reid, as busy as he is, is an incredible home teacher and diligent in his callings. I expect the same is true of Glenn Beck. I listen to all forms of the media- all can be classified as Main Stream, including Fox- each has an agenda and each one diffuses information to enhance their opinion. There is no fair and balanced reporting. So it is wrong to take the word of one media source to rely on what is being said on another media station. The only media that has referred to Glenn Beck as being fired, are the reports from Fox claiming that is what other sources are saying. It perpetuates a negative image that Fox news wants put forth. We can disagree with either Glenn Beck or Harry Reid and be strong and faithful members, we cannot demonize, condemn or berate either men, nor the President of the United States, Bush or Obama included and be proud of who we are as members of the church.

Amen to Angelfood!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never been more embarrassed by a public Mormon figure than Harry Reid!!! Every time the connection eeks out, I want to slither out of the room and pretend I'm not associated!!! Glenn has his rants, but he gets people thinking and studying and talking -- and that's a good thing.

Peace. There is no particular political party or political point-of-view here now on this earth that our Lord supports; whether Harry Reid's liberalism or Glen Beck's conservatism. Like the answer to Joseph's question regarding which religion to join the Savior regarding politics chooses none of the above. This is so he can love us all equally.

Glenn Beck frightens me. He is far too interested in conspiracies. I can stomach Fox News more than any other news channel, but I will turn it off any time Glenn Beck is on. He is much better suited for radio in my opinion.

I think Beck said it best when he told everyone that he is an entertainer, his goal is to get people thinking. I honestly look at him that way, even though I don't agree with everything he says. I also don't agree with everything Reid says, but I still repsect him as a person. Perhaps if we had more respect and a little less bickering in politics things would get done faster nad we would have better compromises overall....

Please cancel my online account. I cannot support or associate with any Church organization that promotes Glenn Beck. It doesn't take much time to research his so-called "facts" and conspiracy theories. He doesn't speak for me and I am ashamed to have to defend the church to my non-member friends because of his bad influence.

Oh nanchi, you are so wrong that Beck has no brain. He is intelligent, researches all that he speaks about and in just says it like it is. Just because you don't like what he says doesn't make Beck a bad person. On the contrary. When Beck spoke about investing in gold, anthony weiner then condemned Beck accusing him of leading the people astray with the help of the main stream media. Then it was found out that the billionaire george soros also invested in gold and weiner stopped his accusations. Just one example of certain individuals trying to stop a truthsayer. As for a debate between Reid and Beck, I am certain Beck would win it. And to Angelfood and Craigort; I am not embarrassed just because Reid is LDS. He is just a mortal man and none of us in the world is perfect.

I dvr his show everyday..I love watching his show and it has taught me a lot of history. I wish my history teachers had been that good and I might have remembered some of the things taught me. also, plz note that he has people doing the research ..so he isnt alone studying and researching so, many of the things you hear on his show are spot on. he speaks on things that some people are to PC to say. I'm glad he is LDS and convert, and someone who has brought other religions together to discuss things we all believe in and need to stand boldly and declare. I am going to miss his show and will not be as diligent in watching fox news. It will definitely not be the same.

read the statement abt ried debating beck..No, two mormons are the same as no one forces his personal beliefs on another. lds chose what they want to believe, they also chose whether they are worthy or not. crying is good, it relieves tension and shows feeling, I know I cry. Oh its not right for a man to show feeling correct. I do believe that fox news had problems with fleeing advertisers and couldnt afford beck, so they canned him. just know that his show was very popular and now that he is going a load of people are not going to watch fox as much. Money does matter and it shows that more than likely the anti capitalists with lots of money forgetting they are capitalists pushing socialism on everyone else are pulling their support. amazing!

no matter if you agree or disagree with what Glenn says, this is my opinion: he is brilliant. Sometimes what he says is scary, but if you think about everything the man does, there is no way he can be a dummy! And so what if he cries? It shows he has deep feelings, and I for one don't think it is unmanly or put-on or being stupid.

Glenn Beck's real passion is gaining attention for himself. He did this when he was a "shock jock," ridiculing a young mother for having a miscarriage on his radio show. He latched onto a Limbaugh-like persona, realizing very quickly, that this was an excellent way for him to garner attention, adulation and a guaranteed place on TV. I have always doubted that he has any real core values. He doesn't seem centered, emotionally stable. I liken him to Andy Griffith's "Lonesome Rhodes."

*Sighs* He's just a guy who is a business man with his own opinion which in my opinion is a tad bit sensational if you ask me and who happens to be LDS. I think forget that Glen Beck is nothing more than an entertainer. Period. So tired that people take his comments as if they were gospel truth.

This reminds me of the hype about Laura Schlessinger. A lot of people didn't like what she had to say, either, because she put it like it is without all the whitewash. No, I didn't agree with everything she said, but I'll tell you, when it was an actual moral she was dealing with (instead of nitpicking about whether guests should be allowed to walk on the carpet), she was usually right on the money. As for Glenn Beck, if you ask me, he's got even more going on than she does when it comes to knowing government should be for the people (not for increasing its own power at the people's expense). Gotta say here ... An America that is against having the Lord honored in all places and at all times is an America that has the wrong government.
