Vote for your favorite Christmas hymn!

A few months ago LDS Living held a contest called The “Favoritest” Hymn of All where readers voted for their favorite song in the hymn book. (Click on the link to find out the winner of that poll!) Today we’re doing the same thing, but with Christmas songs. Vote below for your most-loved Christmas hymn, and leave a comment of your favorite secular (or non-hymn) song.

I know this is not a hymn in the book, but it's a christmas song, I wish they would have included in the poll the song, We 3 Kings. If sung by the right group, it's message and music are very powerful. And that is my favorite christmas song. Another one I really enjoy that's not listed is some of the less known ones done by the celtic women. Christmas pipes.

I think the best Christmas hymn is "O Holy Night." Probably would be too hard for a congregation to sing. In fact, I think most of the Christmas hymns are hard for men to sing.

Again, a toughy, b/c Christmas hymns are my favourites, period, and wish we could sing them all year round. I agree with "Oh, Holy Night" as my all-time favourite, but of course, it's not in the hymn book. Was truly surprised to find my chosen hymn - with much agonising - is coming in at number 2! It's the message of that hymn that gets me every time.

O Holy Night has to be my all time favorite, and I consider it a Hymn. I can listen to it being sung by different artists all day long and never tire of it or the message.

Oh Holy Night is my absolute favorite too, but I really don't see how I heard the Bells on Christmas Day could be considered a favorite Christmas hymn. I find the song extremely depressing because of some of the words it contains.

The Traveler to lovespink: If you knew war you'd understand why "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" has a special place in the hearts of some of us. Check out the history behind the song and you will have a better understanding of it's message. On a 'secular level' my two favorites are "Snoopy and the Red Baron Christmas" and "Simple Gifts".

One of my absolute favorites that I have yet to hear this year (although not a "hymn") is "Mary's Boy Child" as sung by Boney M. It just gets my heart fluttering with all of the rhythm and spirituality!

the traveler: favorite Christmas albums are "CELTIC CHRISTMAS" and "AMERICAN INDIAN CHRISTMAS"..This last is by Jana, an American Indian, and she sings 12 of the traditional favorites in 12 of the Indian dialecs.. A truly spiritual event. Her voice is of an angel;would love to see her perform with the Celtic Women or at the Church's Festival of Lights.Check out the South West Indian Foundation for her music. You all should also hear the heavens open when Dean Shostak plays the Christmas favorites on the glass armonica in his CRYSTAL CAROLS.The instrument was invented by Benjamin Franklin to replace the crystal glasses of his era.Mozart even composed a piece for the instrument. Merry Christmas to all!!

I love the message of the third verse of Away in a Manger. "Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay Close by me forever and love me, I pray." and "fit us for heaven to live with thee there."
